
Nepheline is a naturally occurring tectosilicate mineral with the idealized chemical formula Na₃KAl₄Si₄O₁₆, crystallizing in a hexagonal system. It is primarily found in silica-poor alkaline igneous rocks such as nepheline syenite and—critically—contains no free silica (quartz). Typically colorless to white, nepheline is distinguished by its high alumina (Al₂O₃), making it an exceptionally efficient and eco-friendly raw material for high-temperature industries.
Widely used in glass, ceramics, and refractories, nepheline serves not only as a high-performance alternative to feldspar—but also as a feedstock for aluminum extraction.
